  • Between 1.5 and 2 million older adults are abused every year. 
     
  • Only 1 in 24 cases of elder abuse are ever reported.

  • Elderly victims of financial abuse lose at least $2.9 billion dollars annually.

  • In 90% of elder abuse cases, a family member is the abuser.

  • 34% of financial elder abuse cases were perpetrated by family, friends, and neighbors.

  • Victims of elder abuse are at risk of death or serious psychological disorders at a rate that is 3 times higher than that of the general elderly population.

  • 14.1% of New York State seniors have experienced some kind of elder abuse since turning age 60.

  • Elder abuse is not just physical. It includes emotional/psychological abuse, neglect, economic/financial exploitation, abandonment and sexual abuse.
